Eligibility and Limitations

Maximum Number of Attendants

A maximum of two e-Medical Attendant Visas may be granted for each patient holding a Medical e-Visa.

Relationship to the Patient

Attendants are usually close relatives or persons responsible for the patient’s care. Indian immigration authorities assess eligibility on a case-by-case basis.

Linked Validity

The e-Medical Attendant Visa is normally issued with the same validity period and number of entries as the patient’s Medical e-Visa.

Validity and Entry Conditions

60-Day Validity

The e-Medical Attendant Visa is valid for 60 days from the date of first arrival in India.

Triple Entry Facility

The visa permits up to three entries during the validity period, aligned with the patient’s treatment schedule.

Application Requirements

Each attendant must submit a separate application and supporting documents, which typically include:

Passport Bio-Page

A clear colour scan of the attendant’s passport bio-data page. The passport should normally be valid for at least six(6) months from the date of arrival in India.

Patient Visa Details

The visa number or application ID of the patient’s approved Medical e-Visa is required to link the applications.

Hospital Documentation

A copy of the hospital letter issued for the patient’s treatment may be requested. Authorities may also require confirmation that the attendant is accompanying the patient.

Digital Photograph

A recent colour photograph with a white background, submitted in accordance with current Indian e-Visa photo specifications.

Important Guidelines
  • Non-convertible and generally non-extendable: e-Medical Attendant Visas are normally not extendable or convertible while in India, except in limited cases subject to immigration approval.

  • Individual passports required: Each attendant must hold a separate passport. Endorsements on another person’s passport are not accepted under the e-Visa system.

  • FRRO registration: Registration with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office is required only if a stay is exceptionally extended beyond standard e-Visa limits.
